We recently looked at the data collected on devices used to access m.phonezoo.com & were surprised to see the high ranking for RIM/Blackberry devices. The combined Blackberry 81xx & 83xx devices outnumbered all the other major devices including LG, Samsung, Nokia and Motorola combined!

Being the leading mobile social media and entertainment site targeted mainly at the “millennials”, I would not have expected such high penetration for Blackberry devices. For a while RIM has been trying to break into the consumer space & seems like their efforts are begining to pay off.
I have always felt that the Blackberry Pearl is one of the best smartphone devices. It is a good blend of form and function to become a perfect entertainment and communications device. Blackberry is also IMO the best platform to compete against the Apple iPhone. RIM does however need to open up the platform in a big way to promote applications development.
With crumbling coportate budgets, Blackberry devices need to increase focus on being the next generation consumer device. Based on what we are seeing, it seems to be working. I hope they put extra efforts into developing this platform and dont spend all the R&D budget making the most secure device for POTUS@blackberry.net
